Mthunzi is the Group Managing Director.  Mthunzi began his engineering career with Unilever South Africa in their Durban factories. He then worked for an engineering consulting firm, BKS Inc., and later Hatch Africa, prior to establishing Ikhwezi Consulting Engineers. After completing his MBA at Manchester Business School he worked for a major consulting company in the UK.  Upon returning to South Africa he joined Total South Africa.  Prior to establishing MADLANDUNA Corporation he was the Chief Executive Officer of PORTCON International, the international expansion division of the National Ports Authority.

Mthunzi’s Skills and Competencies include: General Business Strategy and Management, Project Development and Financing, Project & Programme Management, Port Planning, Operations and Economics, Power Systems Engineering & Economics, and Construction Management.

Mthunzi has local and international work experience with big corporations.

Mthunzi is a Nelson Mandela Scholar. He is Chairman and Trustee of the Albert Luthuli Trust.  He is a member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) and the Institute of Directors (IoD).

Sandile Magenuka, PrEng - Technical Director: Electrical

Sandile started his career at Eskom as an Engineer-in-Training. After qualifying as an engineer, he was promoted to Protection Technology Engineer and later to Projects and Maintenance Engineer. He then joined Unilever and worked as the Factory Electrical Engineer and Engineering Services Manager. Prior to joining MADLANDUNA Corporation, Sandile worked for Protekon (the Engineering & Project Management Division of Transnet). He held two positions at Protekon, one as Senior Engineer responsible for construction, and later as Senior Project Manager for Protekon Rail Solutions.

Sandile’s skills and competencies include project development and planning, electrical engineering design, project management, construction management and supervision, maintenance engineering and planning, information and knowledge management. His skills and competencies have been deployed in the Industrial Sector, the Power/Energy Sector, and the Transport Sector.

Sandile is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and holds the Government Certificate of Competency (GCC). He is also a member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE).

Xolani Nxumalo, PrEng - Director: Civils & Structures

Xolani began his professional career as Civil Engineer with Phumelela Africa Professional Engineers where he was involved in project and contract management, quality control and infrastructure services design. During this period, he was seconded to Grinaker where he was involved in the construction of the Monte Casino parkade. He then joined CSIR (Boutek) as Research Civil Engineer where his responsibilities included the development of a Construction Quality Assessment System for residential houses.

Prior to joining MADLANDUNA Corporation, Xolani joined the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) as Senior Structural Engineer. In this role, he was responsible for assessment of rational designs and proposed rectification specifications. He also provided support to provincial offices in assessment of structural distress and provided guidance in this regard. Other tasks in this position included stake-holder liaison, research and development, and project management.

At MADLANDUNA Corporation, Xolani is primarily responsible for establishing and profitably growing the company’s housing business unit. This includes identifying potential housing projects, business development and project management.

His skills and competencies include civil engineering design, construction and site supervision, financial management, project planning and knowledge management. Xolani is highly computer literate, with proficiency on Ms project, Prokon Structural Analysis and MS Visio.

Xolani is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and is an associate member of the South African Institute of Civil Engineers (SAICE).

Sibusiso Bophela, CAIB (SA), Pr CPM - Technical Director: Project Management Services

Sibusiso began his professional career as a Civil Engineering Technician at CMGM Civil Engineering Natal before joining the KwaZulu Finance and Investment Corporation as Senior Technical Advisor. He was involved in the inspection, assessment and valuation of commercial, industrial and housing properties. He also worked with Engineering Management Services (EMS), Khuphuka and KZN Training Trust in various management roles before joining RTM Management Consultants as Technical Manager. In this role Sibusiso was involved in strategy development, project management and managed the successful implementation of a R100m infrastructure development programme in KwaZulu Natal. Sibusiso then worked for Profour Projects as Executive Director where he led the development and implementation of a turnaround strategy which resulted in improved turnover growth and nationwide expansion. He later joined Ithala Development Finance Corporation serving initially as General Manager - Emerging Contractor Development and later as Divisional Manager responsible for Property Development.

Prior to joining MADLANDUNA Corporation, Sibusiso worked with tmtj Consulting primarily on the 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organizing Committee (LOC) project. In his role as Senior Project Manager, he was responsible for the overall co-ordination and cost monitoring of the project infrastructure development programme with an estimated value of R10,4 billion. At MADLANDUNA Corporation, Sibusiso is primarily responsible for managing and profitably growing the company’s project management services business unit. This includes identifying potential projects, strategic business development, project and contract management and team leadership and training.

His skills and competencies include project planning and management, programme implementation, infrastructure development, business development and strategy formulation and implementation, financial management and stakeholder relations management.

Sibusiso is a registered Professional Construction Project Manager with the South African Council for the Project & Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP). He is a member of the Project Management Institute of South Africa (PMI) and the Institute of Directors (IOD).
